Have you ever found reading the Bible to be boring? Well…..perhaps it’s because when we read the Bible, we read it and in our minds, it sounds like someone just emotionlessly droning it to us. But THIS is how the Bible should sound in our minds.
Here, Pastor John Piper is reciting Romans 8 from memory. Let’s all seek to know the Bible like the back of our hands!
Today, during Communion, I noticed something I’ve never noticed before. I know that Jesus was pierced for our iniquities and crushed for our sins, and that the breaking of the bread during Communion symbolized His body being broken for us. But as the actual matzo was being crushed and broken into small pieces, I realized that the breaking of that matzo was just like when God the Father crushed Jesus for us. His wrath came down and absolutely crushed our Savior. The crunching sound of the matzo being broken reminded me of how Jesus groaned on that cross as He received the wrath, the Hell that we deserved. Think about that the next time one of the church deacons or elders is breaking the bread with their hands. It’s analogous to God the Father breaking Jesus for us with the wrath of His hands, so we could partake of Him.
